Yeah! We keep it, uh... kinda organized. Me and the rest of the Guardians all live on the Milano, so we've got about five rooms if we move some stuff around, which I'm thinking we might 'cause we have to make room for Nikki...

[ He definitely talks about her a little differently, more uncertain. He's just hoping she'll be OK tbh. ]

Hey, that's cool you've got someone from home, though. [ He grins. ] Nope, I'm pretty much unphasable! I survived having an evil alien try to get in my head and use some of my most painful memories against me to try and kill me. Plus, then we had to go into Drax's memories and pull him outta his weird nightmares. And I mean, I'm literally buddies with a talking, Russian dog, who runs security in Knowhere so. It's kind of hard to freak me out.

[ He shrugs. Yeah. His life really is like this... ]

Oh, yeah. She's kinda like my daughter.

[ He shrugs, but he actually knows that's kind of a big bomb to drop so he does explain. ]

I spent like, a week thinking she was my daughter, only it turned out she wasn't -- but he mom and I were close, and she kinda didn't have anybody else to turn to after all the scut with the Promise, you know? So we took her on, she's a Guardian now!

[ He is actually quite proud of her. Super proud. She's the best! ]

But yeah, I mean. Being stuck dirtside for this long sucks, don't get me wrong. But this isn't even like a real prison or anything. I've had way worse.

[ He was extremely freaked out about it at first, thank goodness he had like a week to accept it (and then realize she wasn't biologically his, thank flark.) Time away does mean he misses her -- but he misses the rest of the Guardians too. ]

Yeah. Honestly? Me too. [ He gets kinda shy about this! Aw. ] I mean, her mom was really amazing, so she had the best role model growing up. Now she's got me -- and well, the rest of the Guardians, too. Between all of us, I think she's gonna be alright.

[ He sounds sure about it. Well, a little scared, but mostly sure. A kid is a big responsibility... good thing it's a responsibility they all share. ]

But yeah! Chitauri prison was way worse. And I mean, most of the guys there didn't even speak English. The fact that I can talk to people here's already way better! It's like these guys don't know how to build a prison, you know? Not that I'm complaining.

Aw, that sucks, man. I'm sorry.

[ Quill pats Peter on the shoulder. ]

My mom was there for me growing up -- we lived with her mom and dad; my grandparents, till they passed away when I was little. Couldn't have asked for a better family.

[ He can say that with a smile, now that he's had some time (and trauma) to deal with it and face it. He had a good childhood. It made up for the rest. ]

Haha... nope. [ He pops the 'p' on "nope," keeping his tone light. ] I spent about a year just not being able to talk to anybody! Or being understood, far as I could tell. The only thing that saved me was when this Centaurian guy called Yondu got sent to my cell -- Yondu spoke English, and the two of us busted out about a year after that.

Hah, well. They had to keep me alive, duh. I wasn't much use as a hostage dead.

[ He says that a little too casually, rolling it back because, uh, that's actually kinda serious? ]

Sorry, I should back up. My dad, it turns out, was the king of the planet Spartax. Not that I knew that or anything, but I guess the Chitauri kidnapped me so they could hold me for ransom, and try to keep Spartax from fighting in the Galactic War. I don't think it really worked; my dad never showed up. But like in the meantime they fed me and stuff, they just like, kept me in a cell and made me watch the coliseum matches and stuff. I didn't really get what was going on, I was just a scared kid.

[ He shrugs. He definitely doesn't want to get into that, so he perks up as he gets to the subject of Yondu. ]

But Yondu spoke English cause he was a space pirate! Most people have translator implants to help 'em understand most of the languages out there, but pirates tend to work with a lot of species that don't stick to the "usual" channels. So he spoke like 10-15 languages on the count of being super friggin' old. English was just one of 'em cause that's what most Terrans speak.

Me and Yondu broke out! Everybody says it's impossible to break out of Chitauri prison, but that's just 'cause they didn't have human ingenuity and a really pissed off Centaurian.

[ Because, uh, Chitaui prison is forever, Peter. You don't leave in one piece, normally. Though Quill won't add that part, Peter doesn't need to know just how scary it was. ]

But nope, I never met him. I even tried visiting Spartax a couple years later, and dear old dad didn't have "time" to see me, so they turned me away. So much for J'son of Spartax! Worst. Dad. Ever.

[ He pauses. ]

Uh, okay, Thanos is worse. But my dad's pretty high up there.

Nah, the Chitauri all got busted by Nova for siding with Thanos during the War. I had a couple of outstanding priors before, but they exonerated me after I helped stop the Promise.

[ He waves a hand like any of that made sense. I mean, it made sense to Peter, but you know. ]

Least my dad didn't start a galactic war. Low bar, though. 's why I can't ever win an argument with Gamora, she pulls out the Thanos card and all of sudden I'm handing over my last pancake 'cause she said something said. I always fall for it!
